Message from the Dean

It is with great honor and a profound sense of responsibility that I welcome you to the official web portal of the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences (FAHS) at the University of Ruhuna.

Since its formal establishment in September 2017, the FAHS has rapidly evolved into a cornerstone of healthcare education in Sri Lanka. Our history is rooted in the Allied Health Sciences Degree Programme (AHSDP) initiated within the Faculty of Medicine in 2008. From those foundational years, which saw the introduction of Medical Laboratory Science and Nursing followed by Pharmacy in 2010, our faculty has grown in response to a critical national imperative: the production of highly skilled, technically competent health professionals capable of meeting the complexities of the modern healthcare sector.

As the third Dean of this esteemed faculty, my vision is aligned with our institutional mandate to be the premier Allied Health Science education institution in the country. A significant milestone in this journey has been our transition to the state-of-the-art; New Building Complex at Walahanduwa, Galle. This 12-acre purpose-built facility represents a new era for our faculty, providing the necessary infrastructure for advanced clinical training, research, and student welfare.

Our commitment to academic excellence is further evidenced by our burgeoning research culture. Through our annual International Research Symposium (iRUFARS), we provide a global platform for researchers to address healthcare challenges through innovation. We are also proud of our expanding global footprint, fostered through international collaborations such as the nEUROcare, CAPAGE and MARIE projects and collaborations/partnerships with multiple reputed national and international institutions. These initiatives enhance our research output and facilitate invaluable staff and student mobility.

At FAHS, we bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical excellence. We remain steadfast in our commitment to fostering an academic culture defined by integrity, innovation, and a dedication to public health. Whether you are a prospective student, a researcher, or a healthcare partner, I invite you to engage with our community as we continue to elevate the standards of allied health education and practice.

Together, we strive for excellence in healthcare service and academic advancement.
